Mythological Theme Park: Suoi Tien Park in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Travel

Located about 20 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Suoi Tien Park is a unique theme park that gained fame in Japan after being introduced by photographer Kenji Sato. Spanning approximately 105 hectares, the park is vast, filled with bizarre attractions and an array of eccentric monuments.

The most distinctive feature of Suoi Tien Park is its collection of enormous and eccentric monuments scattered throughout the area. Visitors are greeted by massive Buddha statues, intricate dragon sculptures, and even attractions themed around hell—each designed to captivate the eye. In particular, the hell-themed area offers a visual representation of Buddhist teachings, allowing visitors to experience them in an immersive way.

You can enjoy swimming in a pool while gazing at the giant face of King Hung Vuong, who is believed to have founded the first Vietnamese state.

Additionally, the park offers unique activities such as a giant doctor fish pool and crocodile fishing. In the crocodile fishing experience, visitors can dangle a meat-laden fishing rod into a pond filled with hundreds of crocodiles, providing a thrilling opportunity to feed these fierce creatures.

The “theme park section” of Suoi Tien Park features a more understated, traditional design.

The entrance fee is 70,000 VND for adults, making it very affordable even with the weak yen. However, additional charges apply for each attraction and transportation within the park.

Access to Suoi Tien Park, located on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, was previously limited to buses and taxis. However, starting in January 2025, the newly opened Metro Line 1 now provides direct access with no transfers required. From Ben Thanh Station in the city center, you can get off at the nearest station, Đại Học Quốc Gia (National University Station). The fare is 20,000 VND, and the journey takes approximately 40 minutes.

For the first month after the opening of Metro Line 1, Đại Học Quốc Gia Station was very crowded as the rides were free. Since the metro system was developed by Hitachi, the trains’ design was quite similar to the Keihin-Tohoku Line, with the carriages resembling those in Japan.
